Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Renato Reggiori's landscape painting displays unmistakable characteristics that make it unique and original. Reggiori is an artist rooted in reality and thus maintains a classical and traditional conception of landscape. However, this vision is imbued with a profoundly rationalistic spirit that leads him to organize the perceptible world into a system of regular lines and shapes. In all of Reggiori's landscapes, the exaltation of pure form prevails, delineated by a pared-down pictorial style that nevertheless does not neglect the truth of the subject. This delicate balance embodies the very essence of this artist. A balance that distinguishes every aspect of his work, as can also be seen in his application of color. Chromatic consistency is absolute, with the prevalence of warm hues tending toward red or orange that make his landscapes unmistakable.
Born in Caravate in 1932, after classical studies, Renato Reggiori attended the Brera Academy, where he studied under Gino Moro, and the Scuola d'Arte Superiore at the Castello Sforzesco with Mantica. However, it was the art of Innocente Salvini, whom he met as a boy, that influenced his artistic language. Renato Reggiori passed away in 2004.
