Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
Even in this scene, taken from everyday life, one of Capredoni's favorite subjects returns: the horse. In this painting, the group of animals pulling the sleigh is rendered with a highly dynamic and sinewy line that perfectly expresses the strength and energy of the steeds, while also giving shape to their remarkably sculptural volumes. The sense of irrepressible strength and dynamism is also echoed in the composition, which, built on a diagonal cut, suggests further momentum in the sleigh's motion.
Renzo Capredoni is a Milanese painter born in 1933. Throughout his career, he has focused primarily on horses and female portraits. His painting style is truly eclectic, open to a wide range of experimentation. Indeed, his works showcase stylistic diversity, ranging from classical figurative to abstract expressionism.
