Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The pictorial language of the master Renzo Moreu is distinguished by a perfect fusion of classical tradition and contemporary sensibility. Especially in his landscape paintings, the artist gives free rein to contemporary expressionism, reaching heights of expressionist language. This landscape is a beautiful example, where Renzo Moreu subjects the data of tangible reality to an accentuated synthesis of color. Nature is minimized in a light and diluted style, richly arabesqued and dark, vibrant with a shifting and nuanced light. This is a decidedly lyrical, if not downright spiritual, interpretation of landscape painting, grounded in the expressive qualities of color and line, rather than form. Even the choice of palette demonstrates the same desire to transcend contingent data to embrace a spiritual meaning of color.
Renzo Moreu was born in Ronchi dei Legionari in 1934 and passed away in Monfalcone in 2015. He studied at the Abbazia Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. A figurative and expressionist, he had over 130 solo exhibitions and participated in 35 group shows and exhibitions in Italy, France, the former USSR, Argentina, Canada, Australia, and Japan. His works are present in private and public collections in Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Switzerland, the former USSR, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Argentina, Canada, Japan, and Austria, as well as in the modern art museums of Sion and Lausanne and the Museo Revoltella in Trieste. Other permanent works include: Palazzo La Motta, New York; Krain Museum, Belgrade. Commissioned by the Presidency of the Republic of Yugoslavia, he designed the "Trieste Battalion" Monument to the Resistance, located in Slovenia (Opacchiasella), 1975. Commissioned by the Holy See, he painted a "Via Crucis" in the Parish Church of Santo Stefano in Ronchi dei Legionari. Commissioned by the Bishops of Ljubljana and Koper, he created a fresco depicting the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, located in Slovenia (Ronzina), in 1992.
