Description of the work
Description of the work
We are faced with a painting that could be defined as part of the abstract expressionist movement. Abstract art was born in the 20th century, and the intent of this pictorial form is to create overall compositions that do not represent objects from the visual world but rather organize colors according to their Expressive and decorative, on the other hand, Expressionism, born at the beginning of the last century, prioritizes subjective reactions and emotions over perceived objective reality. What anchors the painting in reality is its title, The Language of Poplar Leaves . It makes us imagine an autumnal world where the leaves of the trees create microcosms of bright colors, and this allows us to associate the painting with our own memories and intimate emotions linked to these autumnal landscapes colored with all the hues of the rainbow.
Seeing this work brings to mind Matisse, who once said, "Aim for the strongest possible chromatic effect." Indeed, in this painting, we see strong, intense colors, with a fairly dark palette that makes the material appear even denser. The brushstrokes are quick and intuitive, and we also note a certain attention to the use of complementary colors that juxtapose and complement each other.
Roberto Garbarino is an art critic and historian as well as a painter. He was born in Genoa in 1964, where he continues to work as an exhibition curator, poet, philosophical essayist, and artist. In addition to publishing several artists' monographs, he studies the relationship between modern and contemporary art and contemporary times from a phenomenological perspective to understand the various sociological aspects of contemporary society.
Garbarino's painting develops from figurative art, especially landscape, to increasingly abstract and informal painting. His art is closely intertwined with his philosophical thought and explores the issues and challenges of contemporary society.
