Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.
Roberto Merelli is an artist who has based his artistic language on an expressionism of color. His figures are subjected to a process of formal synthesis, through a lively application of subtle, sinuous lines. The subjects thus appear extremely mobile and lively, shaken by existential vibrations.
Roberto Merelli was born in Venice in 1936. He trained at the Scuola Libera del Nudo of the Venice Academy. He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions. Among his numerous accolades, he was invited to the XXXIV Venice Biennale in 1968 for his "Figurative Arts" series.
