Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality. However, this representation often relies on a hyperrealistic formal rendering, precisely to paradoxically accentuate the illusory and ambiguous nature of the surreal dimension. The surreal element plays a fundamental role in Renello da Pordenone's artistic production. His subjects are always visionary, even when dealing with themes more closely related to a plausible reality.
Aside from the originality of his subjects, always inspired by a visionary conception of artistic creation, Renello's language is also unique and personal. Indeed, the artist seeks to evoke true visions, both sacred and symbolic. For this reason, drawing on the Surrealist tradition, his formal language is strongly figurative, evoking concrete images, even if they belong to a dimension other than that of the sensible world. However, to imbue it with fantastical overtones, this figurative concreteness is subjected to expressive distortions by the artist. Renello departs from the path paved by the great masters Dalí or Magritte to forge his own path, preferring a decidedly more expressionist style to the illusionistic hyperrealism of the latter. The images are concise and essential, their construction based on a clear line that generates elegant and sinuous forms. The application of color is also quite dynamic, based on a palette that definitively transcends sensory data to acquire a strongly symbolic value.
Rodolfo Renello, known as Renello da Pordenone, was a Venetian painter. His work is highly interesting and original, grounded in a visionary approach that links him to Surrealism, yet expressed in a minimalist and concise expressionist language that makes his work entirely unique and distinctive.
