Description of the work
Description of the work
A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes and equestrian monuments, and painters have always found it a challenge to depict it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering.
Romano Mussolini's paintings have a consistently recognizable artistic language, even when he abandons his favorite subject, the clown. The figures are delineated by bold outlines, while the color is always light, sometimes reaching a heightened painterly quality with highly expressionistic effects. Thus, the figures appear almost dematerialized within a two-dimensional surface, conveying a sense of extreme lightness.
Romano Mussolini, born in Forlì in 1927 and died in 2006, was a primarily figurative painter who focused primarily on genre subjects such as clowns, horses, and landscapes. His compositions display a simplicity of line and color.
