Description of the work
Description of the work
Romano Stefanelli's Still Life I depicts a simple yet intense composition: a few red chili peppers and a whole head of garlic are arranged on a table covered with a crisp white tablecloth. The objects emerge with visual force thanks to the stark chromatic contrast between the white of the cloth and the vibrant red and brown tones. The setting suggests an everyday scene yet brimming with symbolism, in which humble elements of Mediterranean tradition are highlighted with great respect for their form and presence. The style of the work is precise and accurate; each element is painted with great realism, giving the impression of being able to touch what you see. The artist carefully observes reality and provides a clear vision, but he does not limit himself to reproducing the objects as they are. He also introduces an atmosphere full of energy thanks to the background that fades into warm colors such as yellow, red, and black. These shades evoke the idea of fire and create a strong contrast with the calm of the foreground scene. The result is a balance between silence and movement, between the solidity of the objects and the expressive power of the background. Romano Stefanelli, a Florentine painter and engraver, was a student of Pietro Annigoni and maintained a strong connection with the great Italian figurative tradition, while updating it with a contemporary sensibility. His work is intertwined with the Editalia publishing project, which over the years has promoted Italian artists associated with refined figurative art and the artisanal care of imagery.
