Description of the work
Description of the work
The depiction of animals in art has ancient origins, even appearing in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era. In this painting, the artist Moriconi focuses his research on the figure of the horse. A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject throughout the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes or equestrian monuments, and for painters, representing it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering has always been a challenge.
Moriconi's pictorial language is distinguished by a pursuit of essentiality and simplicity in representation. In Moriconi's vision, sensory reality undergoes expressionistic modifications. These modifications are primarily identified in a reduction of drawn details in favor of a composition that expresses itself primarily through the application of color. From a chromatic perspective, it is also noteworthy that Moriconi's palette is made up of extremely vivid colors, full of light and verging on natural truth. In this sense, we can say that Moriconi's entire pictorial practice is characterized by a very naïve narrative verve that leads him to describe the world in a creative and imaginative manner.
The painter Moriconi is the protagonist of a highly original body of work based on the expressionistic qualities of color. His style is characterized by a very lively and imaginative interpretation of reality, marking him as a naive artist.
