Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s, encompassing all fields of artistic research. In terms of the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike and visionary dimension.
Svetlana Borisova's works present an aesthetic that draws on both Expressionist and Surrealist influences. Reality is reinvented in an extremely synthetic manner, with a marked reduction of sensory data. The brushstrokes delineate forms in a very agitated manner, and delving even more specifically, we can see how Svetlana Borisova interprets an "other" reality with a series of almost gestural pictorial marks in the creation of biomorphic entities. All this leads to the definition of imaginary scenarios, drawn directly from the artist's perception, also linked to the influence of her father's geological studies, which transcend reality to enter a surreal dimension. This result is achieved through the entirely subjective interpretation of color, whose dense application results in a full-bodied and dynamic mixture of predominantly warm or fluorescent hues.
Svetlana Borisova was born in Neksikane, in Northern Siberia, bordering the Kamchatka Peninsula, where her father conducted geological surveys aimed at discovering important mineral resources. The local landscape is characterized by a very long winter followed by the rapid alternation of spring and summer. A land where Mother Nature's presence is very strong and visible, and colors change radically and rapidly in a tumultuous and rapid development. It is in this context that the artist's nature and strong character are forged: a great and generous mother, a rushing torrent of Siberian vitality, a source of formidable energy and inventiveness. As a child, she moved to Moscow with her family, where she completed her studies, eventually earning a diploma as a specialist in functional and motor rehabilitation. She subsequently met an Italian boy with whom love blossomed, resulting in their move to Rome, Italy, where the family established their residence and where she lives with her husband Enrico and their son Cesare.
