Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
In this work, artist Salvatore Emblema demonstrates a different language than his usual chromatic balances on raw materials, opting for an abstract composition in which the circular form predominates. However, Emblema's artistic approach remains consistent, even in his interpretation of abstraction. The circle is defined in a crude manner, following an almost Brutalist aesthetic. Within the circle, the artist's gestures prevail, denser and more animated than Emblema's usual calligraphic interventions. The importance of material remains constant, in the use of earth, and of color, distributed according to carefully studied balances.
Salvatore Emblema (1929-2006). He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. His artistic research was influenced by Spatialism, in the intervention of reality into the artwork and the use of raw materials such as clay and canvas. His experience in the United States was crucial, adding two other essential components to his style: Pollock's freedom of creative gestures and Rothko's balance and chromatic fades.
