Description of the work
Description of the work
The work has a marked expressionist vocation, which tends to emphasize the expression of emotions. Expressionist art seeks to proclaim its moods to the world and flaunt them with passion. Formally, this translates into a summary rendering of the figures, through a very nervous and animated line, as well as the use of a violent color palette. These characteristics are found in the historical avant-garde movements of expressionism: Fauvism and the Die Brucke movement in Germany.
With the use of graffiti in these prints, Salvatore Fiume's language becomes even more expressionistic. The synthesis of the subjects is so accentuated that they transform into splashes of color. Only the outlines remain to leave a trace of the subject, while everything else is entrusted to the expressive qualities of color.
Salvatore Fiume, born in 1915 in Comiso, was a painter, sculptor, and architect. His career as a painter focused on a reinterpretation of classicism, particularly Renaissance painting and Piero della Francesca. Later, thanks to his success, he traveled extensively around the world, drawing inspiration from exotic folklore, which he rendered with an expressionist touch.
