The artistic movement founded by Giorgio de Chirico reclaims images that already exist, familiar to the collective imagination. However, it creates an effect of alienation through the process of displacement, that is, the sudden appearance of an object outside its usual context, or through condensation, the fusion of multiple objects into a single entity. Metaphysical art is also distinguished by the ostentatiously illusory nature of its images.

The creation of this silkscreen is undoubtedly linked to the series of Metaphysical works developed by Salvatore Fiume throughout his career. We can see some key elements, such as the equestrian figure on the left and the enormity of the statues compared to the onlookers. Everything is configured in an enigmatic space, captured in an atmosphere of suspension. For Fiume, moreover, the lucid rationality typical of Metaphysical Art is a further pretext for his exploration of form and plasticity. In this work, the exaltation of volumes is achieved through fine hatching.

Salvatore Fiume, born in 1915 in Comiso, was a painter, sculptor, and architect. His career as a painter focused on a reinterpretation of classicism, particularly Renaissance painting and Piero della Francesca. Later, thanks to his success, he traveled extensively around the world, drawing inspiration from exotic folklore, which he rendered with an expressionist touch.
