Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
It can be said that, just as the Last Naturalists took the landscape genre to its most extreme, informal, consequences, Sandro Bracchitta follows the same path when moving within the still life genre. Indeed, his research begins with the study of an object, usually a bowl, a recurring element in his work. The object's circular shape offers the painter the opportunity to analyze its interactions with the surrounding space. These interactions are identified in the application of wavy bands of color and calligraphic strokes that reveal, in Sandro Bracchitta, a harmonious and calibrated gesture. Aesthetically, Bracchitta's works have a powerful impact thanks to a dynamic, iridescent blend of colors, in which the bright red of the bowls stands out in a vivid representation of the object.
Sandro Bracchitta was born in Ragusa in 1966. Engraver, painter and engraving teacher, he trained in Florence. Since 2008 he has been present at many national and international events such as "Incisioni Italiane", Sassari 2008, 2010; 10th International Drawing and Graphic Biennial, Gyor (H) 2009; 2nd Bangkok Triennale International Print and Drawing Exhibition Thailand (Grand Prize), 2009; Biennale Internazionale d'Estampes Contemporaine de Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada 2009 (public award); 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, 2011; "Grafica Oggi.
