Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
In this painting, Sante Monachesi reveals his connection to the historical French avant-garde. The overall structure of the painting shows strong similarities to Matisse and Fauvism, due to the extreme synthesis of the subject and the predominance of strong, aggressive color tones. On the other hand, the entire spatial organization exhibits a typically Cubist decomposition; the setting is deconstructed according to multiple directives, and a complex intersection of planes composes the painting's surface.
Sante Monachesi was born in Macerata in 1910 and died in Rome in 1991. Along with Bruno Tano, he was one of the leading proponents of Futurism in the Marche region, founding the "Futurist Movement in the Marche" and the group "Umberto Boccioni, Futurists in the Marche." His first solo exhibition was in Recanati in 1934, marking the beginning of an intense exhibition program that led him to exhibit several times at the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial.
