Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting is being sold for charity, with the proceeds going to a school located in the highlands of Madagascar, attended by poor children.
This work by Sanzio is inspired by Vertumnus, painted by Giuseppe Arcimboldo in 1590 and depicting Emperor Rudolf II of Habsburg as the Roman god of the seasons. The painting is housed in Skokloster Castle in Habo, Sweden.
The painter Sanzio's style, whether inspired by the masters' masterpieces or developing original subjects, is perfectly recognizable. This painter's vision involves an expressionistic simplification with a decidedly naive touch. Sanzio chooses his subject and derives a schematic vision composed of clean lines and pure colors. The result is a synthesis of the original model that leads to a recontextualization of perception according to contemporary aesthetics. Although this process of simplification and subjective reinterpretation has, as we've already mentioned, profound naive implications, we can nevertheless observe how the final work also acquires certain pop connotations. This is evident in the flattening of the image and in the use of aggressive, almost electric colors, reminiscent of mass media language and advertising graphics.
Artist Sanzio Magi is originally from Tuscany but has lived and worked in Villanova Mondovì since 1975. He has always had a passion for painting, but work and family commitments prevented him from pursuing it for much of his life. With the free time afforded him by retirement, Sanzio can finally devote himself to painting with dedication. His most enduring sources of inspiration are Raphael, Michelangelo, and Botticelli, and the Renaissance in general. Sanzio's artistic sensibility is intertwined with the kindness and admirable generosity of spirit that have motivated him to donate his works for charity exhibitions.
