Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.

Sauro Tasselli's pictorial research focuses primarily on form and the transfer of reality and sensory data into a rational dimension, in which the artist tends to reconstruct the world geometrically. These principles are developed by Tasselli both in his still lifes, which hark back to the vibrant essentiality of Giorgio Morandi, and in his landscape paintings, where the compositional balance determined by pure volumes inevitably draws on Ottone Rosai. Sauro Tasselli, therefore, draws on the Italian pictorial tradition of form and harmony that stems from the Renaissance but is filtered through a typically twentieth-century return to order. Indeed, while the balance of volumes is the foundation of the composition, the vibrant, structural, and in some cases even material, pictorial texture is influenced by all the existential anxieties brought about by the twentieth-century avant-garde. This is particularly evident in the still life series, where the artist's pictorial instinct prevails, leading him to adopt a highly complex style, charged with vibrations that almost destroy the objects' forms. Even chromatically, Tasselli's palette is consistent with a balance of subdued tones, ideally suited to enhancing the rational harmony of the composition.
Sauro Tasselli is a Florentine painter born in 1923. His production is essentially divided into landscape views in which the pure volumes of buildings in a clear atmosphere predominate, and still lifes which he treats with a accentuated pictorial sense.
