Description of the work
Description of the work
Pietro Pantino (1941 - ) is a painter originally from Palermo, where he was born in 1941. He creates almost exclusively genre scenes inspired by a fin-de-siècle bourgeois world. His pictorial language is also in line with his favorite subjects, drawing inspiration from a post-impressionist style in the construction of the image. At the age of twelve, he began learning the rudiments of anatomy from his first teacher, Ernesto Crispino, and a few years later, he met Professor Albano Rossi, who encouraged him to study anatomy and recommended that he enroll in art school. In 1957, Rossi exhibited him in a group show sponsored by the municipality of Palermo and the tourist board. On that occasion, art critic Carlo Battaglia noticed him and wrote an article about him in the newspaper “Grido alla Sicilia.” This exhibition brought him considerable critical and public acclaim. Pantino's painting style is distinguished by its construction of the image through synthetic brushstrokes and dense color. The broad strokes create a vibrant image, full of vitality. Color, therefore, is the absolute protagonist in the painting's structure, harmoniously blended with the creation of a coherent, dense, and moist atmosphere.
