Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
Silvana Sisi's works consistently display a highly interesting and original execution, a result of her highly elaborate egg tempera technique. The use of this particular color, which the artist borrows from Cennino Cennini's "Book of the Art," written in 1398, allows Sisi to achieve a dynamic application of color, with iridescent effects of light and color. This is evident in this beautiful nude, where the exaltation of plasticity in a concrete form does not prevent the painter from exploiting the expressive potential of color. Thus, this female body is permeated by a formal disintegration, brought about by intense vibrations of light and life. Its intricate torsion is also echoed in the application of color, which creates a rotary motion, particularly noticeable in the accentuated synthesis of the mass of hair.
Silvana Sisi was born in Pesaro in 1956 and lives and works between Fano and Itaparica, Brazil. Her subjects draw inspiration from the world of advertising: clips of television imagery come to life in her canvases with a magical atmosphere and new beauty. She creates her works in a revisited egg tempera technique, which involves sponging and gives her paintings a play of light and transparency.
