Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks proposed the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality.
Stefano Tonelli is an artist gifted with an inexhaustible eclectic streak that leads him to develop complex compositional ideas. This work presents a truly dreamlike vision, yet always treated in Tonelli's characteristic abstract-minimal style. This helps to transfigure the representation into a symbolic sense and create an image charged with an existential melancholy of cosmic significance. Everything is immersed in a deep blue, further enhancing the sense of solitude of the scene.
Stefano Tonelli is an artist from Montescudaio. In the 1970s, he made his research public by participating in numerous events and exhibitions. Since the 1980s, however, he has rarely participated in exhibitions, instead participating primarily in performances. He uses a variety of techniques and styles with great ease. Over the past ten years, he has exhibited in prestigious venues in Rome, Milan, New York, Berlin, Paris, Hamburg, Madrid, and Lisbon. He participated in the 54th Venice Biennale.
