Star of 2000 - Ipzs

The 2000 Star commemorative medal was created by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato to mark the Jubilee of 2000. The work, in 22-karat gold set with a diamond, was modeled and designed by Laura Cretara, the first female engraver at the Italian Mint, renowned for her artistic contribution to national numismatics. The twenty-sided shape recalls the twenty centuries that have passed since the birth of Christ. The obverse depicts the Good Shepherd, inspired by an early Christian sculpture, a symbol of guidance and salvation. The reverse features Christ's monogram superimposed on the plan of St. Peter's Basilica, surrounded by a crown of wings with the dates of all the Jubilees from 1300 to 2000. The work combines technical excellence and symbolic value, making it an example of high-quality art publishing and a testament to the transition to the new millennium.
