Emotional turmoil often corresponds to a strange state of intoxication, of narcosis, as if we've taken some substance, be it alcohol, a drug, a particular medication... a state of torpor, almost unconsciousness, a trance... a limbo in which you are there, yes, but not entirely, and, above all, you're not really you. A state in which you experience a mix of emotions, not clearly identified or distinct from each other, conflicting and capable of taking control of you and your actions. A very different state from emotional sobriety, in which you are aware.
