Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical era, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
The painting exemplifies the formal exploration that artist T. Carlito employs with the female figure. His exploration is primarily oriented toward an exaltation of plasticity. The woman's face, in its general decontextualization, is characterized by a plasticity that allows it to create its own space. As for the subject itself, the artist is not interested in a faithful transposition of sensory data. The physiognomic features are generic, creating a highly expressive and iconic figure. The work's expressionism is evident primarily in the dynamic and complex pictorial layering, which even extends to gestural dripping. Even the color completely transcends the naturalistic, taking on a symbolic and spiritual significance.
Carlito T. is an artist from Salerno, born in 1974. His passion for art was first sparked by creating paintings and allegorical figures for Carnival. Then, after attending the Art Institute, he delved into the world of tattoos. He specializes primarily in acrylic on canvas. Most of his works feature female faces. His work has been exhibited in various shows in cities such as Munich, São Paulo, Brazil, Paris, Sanremo, and Naples.
