Portraiture is one of the most widespread artistic expressions, especially in painting, but also in sculpture, throughout the ages. Portraiture is, first and foremost, a description of the subject depicted, an attempt to capture their physiognomy and individual characteristics truthfully and naturally. With the progressive evolution of artistic research, the physiognomic description of the subject has also been accompanied by a psychological one. Therefore, over the centuries, portraiture has also become a means of introspective investigation of the subject, their character, and their state of mind. The processes of abstraction brought about by contemporary art have contributed to this type of investigation.

Festa, in his artistic research, is inspired by a strongly experimental nature that leads him to completely rework even the traditional genre of portraiture. This is the case with this work, where the artist not only transcends the concept of naturalistic rendering of sensory data in favor of a process of abstraction, but seeks to go beyond abstraction itself. For this reason, Festa completely deconstructs the portrait and reworks it in a totally gestural manner. Thus, perhaps we can still discern the profile of a face, but it also transforms into a flower, and ultimately, everything converges in a complete informal poetics. Thus, the artist's perception and idea of ​​reality dominate, conveyed in his energetic and agitated pictorial gesture, made of a dense and material layering.
