Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Even and especially in his landscape paintings, we can see how Tarcisio's aesthetic is based on a balanced compositional interplay of volumes and masses. Reality is stripped of all detail and consciously reduced to a series of geometric solids (the parallelepiped, the prism, the sphere) absolutely perfect in the purity of their volumes. The plasticity, as usual, is enhanced by the dense application of the palette knife. Even from a chromatic perspective, the color does not interfere with the geometric harmony, revealing itself in a sort of monochrome that reaffirms the purity of the composition.
Poalo Generali was born in Fano in 1904 and passed away in 1998. He took the name Tarcisio when he took monastic vows. His training began at an early age in the workshop of his father, a decorator and set designer. Initially, he practiced drawing, but later developed a passion for color, which led him to adopt the palette knife technique typical of his painting.
