Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Testorini is a typical representative of academic painting. His formal quality is remarkable and refined in his depiction of a landscape with a perfect naturalistic rendering. The composition, as is often the case in his work, is compressed in the foreground, leaving little room for spatial depth. There is a precise atmospheric fusion, thanks in part to the use of a quicker, more cursive line in the description of certain details. The light expands across the entire pictorial space, characterizing the landscape with diaphanous gleams. In this way, the naturalistic representation acquires a strong lyrical component.
