Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is inspired by the "Gamba de Legn," a Milanese expression used to refer to the old wooden locomotives used between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The urban landscape, a subject already present in the medieval and modern periods, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It is worth remembering that immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, the crowds, the traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
Artist Theo Schrepp stands out for his refined production of highly distinctive Milanese urban views. Formally, the depiction is achieved through vivid hatching, making everything appear vibrant and full of life. The brushstrokes are remarkably dynamic, expressing the unstoppable flow of city traffic. Color plays a crucial role in creating a coherent atmosphere and lighting.
Theo Schrepp is a painter who has focused primarily on Milanese urban landscapes. His pictorial language is rooted in the Impressionist tradition of urban and bourgeois painting, characterized by rapid and immediate representation.
