Description of the work
Description of the work
The work has a marked expressionist vocation, which tends to emphasize the expression of emotions. Expressionist art seeks to proclaim its moods to the world and flaunt them with passion. Formally, this translates into a summary rendering of the figures, through a very nervous and animated line.
Thomas Junghans's sculptural work has a strong expressionist connotation. There is a remarkable synthesis of the subject, which completely sheds its individual characteristics to assume an expressive, iconic form with a powerfully archaic vigor. The line is broken and tormented, and the whole is presented in a sort of unfinished state, as if the sculpture were a natural product of the material.
Thomas Junghans was born in 1956 in Recklinghausen. He graduated from the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht in 1981. From 1982 to 1985, he attended the Faculty of Applied Sciences in Aachen. He has exhibited his work in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, especially in his home country and in Germany.
