Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their exploration focuses instead on the material or gesture with which they compose their works.
Throughout his career, artist Tino Vaglieri has also distinguished himself with an interesting and original informal art style, of which this work is a prime example. His paintings, in this aesthetic, are characterized by a constant search for balance between painterly gesture and color. This leads Vaglieri to create, on the canvas, floating entities, born from an exercise in the artist's perception. This perception is transfigured into an instinctive yet carefully calibrated gesture, composed of thick black lines, with a sinuous shape and dynamic rhythm. The created entity always stands out in an intensely chromatic space, crossed by a black stripe, reinforcing the composition's sense of movement.
Celestino Vaglieri, known as Tino, was an artist originally from Trieste, where he was born in 1929. He remained there for only a year, moving first to Rome and then to Milan, where he attended the Brera Academy. It was during this period that he met Banchieri, Romagnoni, Ceretti, Guerreschi, and Ferroni, with whom he formed a partnership beginning in the mid-1950s. With the support of critics such as De Micheli and Valsecchi, they embraced figurative art at the time of the explosion of Art Informel across the Atlantic. Vaglieri later pursued his own artistic career, drawing inspiration from Art Informel, in a stylistic exploration always focused on analyzing the balance of form and color. Tino Vaglieri passed away in Milan in 2000.
