Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject of this painting may be connected to the genre of Vedutismo. Vedutismo originated in the 18th century and developed primarily in Venice. Vedutismo painters aimed to represent a landscape objectively and scientifically, placing it as the protagonist of the work. There are essentially two types of vedute: the realistic one, taken exactly from reality, and the "capriccio," a fanciful view invented by the painter. Vedutismo is a genre that continues to enjoy popularity in artistic production, revived by artists in new forms and new interpretations.
The view is framed by a clear convergence of orthogonal lines, constructing the space in perfect perspective based on the horizon. The objects are arranged in a balanced manner along this convergence, creating a perfect harmony of elements. Formally, Belisario pursues a naturalistic rendering, yes, but one that is rarefied, almost metaphysical in its stillness. The dense, humid, and gloomy atmosphere that characterizes many of this artist's works contributes to this impression.
Tita Belisario's painting is Venetian. Her canvases, predominantly Venetian visions, are highly sought after by foreign gallery owners, which has led—especially in the last ten years—to a rise in the artist's price. The founding elements of the artist's pictorial journey are easily identifiable: a tradition that adheres to the dictates of the great Venetian masters of the past, and a dialogue with light, which sometimes barely touches, sometimes pervades and transforms.
