Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
In this silkscreen, Tommaso Cascella also demonstrates his taste for more playful compositions. Here, an anecdotal scene undergoes an Expressionist transfiguration, predominantly through geometric figures. This rationalization, with its fairy-tale and almost surreal overtones, also reveals the influence of Paul Klee, especially in the mysterious appearance of the magical symbols at the top.
Tommaso Cascella was born in Rome in 1951. He is a painter and sculptor. His works are veritable chromatic architectures, studded with alchemical and magical symbols. He has always been driven by a great passion for literature, and his works often bear the titles of poems and novels. His first exhibition was held at the Galleria De Ambrogi in Milan in 1985. Since then, numerous solo and group exhibitions have followed.
