Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. The artist Umberto Bianchini focused his pictorial research on female faces and figures, arriving at his own entirely original form of Expressionism.
Umberto Bianchini's Expressionism is based on the synthesis of the subject and the transcendence of contingent data in favor of a representation with broader meanings. This synthesis occurs through a dense, highly elaborately applied paint. The figures thus become almost masks, which nevertheless exhibit a very marked plasticity, yet one deriving exclusively from the vibrations of the paint itself. The brushstrokes are energetic and vigorous in the rough-hewn figures. A palette of very pale tones prevails, highlighting the whites of the subjects, punctuated by deep black shadows.
Umberto Bianchini was born in Florence in 1934 and passed away in 2010. After high school, he began working as a graphic designer and entered the art world by studying painting, with a particular interest in Post-Impressionism and Tuscan portrait painters. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and events, garnering critical and public acclaim and winning several awards. He also participated by invitation in numerous group exhibitions and international exhibitions. His works are held in private and important public collections. Two of his works have been purchased by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment. One of his paintings is exhibited at the National Museum in Krakow.
