Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic currents. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. In the case of Nespolo, whose language is shaped by a strong Pop Art influence, it is the puzzle that deconstructs and reconstructs reality through an objective process.
This work clearly demonstrates Ugo Nespolo's desire to transform reality from phenomenal to noumenal. The portion of the world captured by the painter is stripped of sensory data because the artist wants to go beyond it, capturing every existential aspect. To this end, he proceeds with a systematic decomposition of reality that takes into account every possible variable, every possible development. The sensory world is thus transformed into an intricate interplay of planes that reflects its complexity even in the choice of color palette.
Ugo Nespolo was born in Mosso in 1921. His artistic career in the 1960s was characterized by a distinct Pop leaning. He was also involved in conceptual movements, particularly Arte Povera. His entire artistic output is characterized by a taste for irony and fun. His most famous works present an objective reconstruction of reality through complex interplays of planes and colors.
