Umberto Bianchini - Composition (Still Life)

The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.

Even in his still life and landscape paintings, although these are genres tied to the reproduction of sensory data, Umberto Bianchini does not deny his expressionist nature. Thus, even in a work like this, he seeks to exploit the formal peculiarities of his style to imbue objects with a profound lyrical and existential meaning. First and foremost, the composition is constructed entirely through color: to transcend contingent data and transfigure reality into the symbolic system of his painting, Bianchini must unhinge the drawing grid. In this way, he can exploit all the expressive qualities in the application of color. Indeed, his brushstrokes are dense and crafted to create a continuum between objects and space, in a perfect atmospheric fusion. An atmosphere that we can certainly define as dense with existential vibrations that give the still life or landscape a truly poetic connotation. A distinctive feature is the prevalence of material white, truly characteristic of Bianchini's work.

Umberto Bianchini was born in Florence in 1934 and passed away in 2010. After high school, he began working as a graphic designer and entered the art world by studying painting, with a particular interest in post-Impressionism and Tuscan portrait painters. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and events, garnering critical and public acclaim and winning several awards. He also participated, by invitation, in numerous group exhibitions and international exhibitions. His works are held in private and important public collections. Two of his works were purchased by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment. One of his paintings is exhibited at the National Museum in Krakow.
