Description of the work
Description of the work
Interior views are quite common among the subjects of artworks. Consider, for example, the many paintings depicting the artist's studio, such as Courbet's famous "Atelier." In other cases, painters have drawn inspiration from the intimate spaces of their lives, a prime example being Van Gogh's "The Room." But much more often, for an artist, portraying an interior takes on a symbolic meaning, especially when it appears emptied of human presence and the objects become images of memory. This is the interpretation we can give to this "Attic" by Umberto Bianchini, consistent with the essentially Symbolist nature of his pictorial research.
Even in his landscape and interior paintings, though tied to the reproduction of sensory data, Umberto Bianchini does not deny his expressionist nature. Thus, even in a view like this, he seeks to exploit the formal peculiarities of his style to imbue the scene with a profound lyrical and existential meaning. First and foremost, the composition is constructed entirely through color: to transcend contingent data and transfigure reality into the symbolic system of his painting, Bianchini must unhinge the drawing grid. In this way, he can exploit all the expressive qualities in the application of color. Indeed, his brushstrokes are dense and crafted to create a continuum between objects and space, in a perfect atmospheric fusion. An atmosphere that we can certainly define as dense with existential vibrations that give this view a truly poetic connotation.
Umberto Bianchini was born in Florence in 1934 and passed away in 2010. After high school, he began working as a graphic designer and entered the art world by studying painting, with a particular interest in post-Impressionism and Tuscan portrait painters. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and events, garnering critical and public acclaim and winning several awards. He also participated, by invitation, in numerous group exhibitions and international exhibitions. His works are held in private and important public collections. Two of his works were purchased by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment. One of his paintings is exhibited at the National Museum in Krakow.
