Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.

The style of painter Umberto D'Arceto, in much of his work, is characterized by the development of a strongly expressionist language. The artist seeks to go beyond what is perceived by the senses to extrapolate the true essence of reality and communicate it vividly on canvas. For this reason, through the application of color, he develops a highly synthesised process that reduces subjects to their purest essence, eliminating all descriptive frills. In this work, the abstract and geometric essentiality of the figure is combined with a unique technique that creates the surface of the work like that of a mosaic.

Umberto Pedroni was born in Arceto in 1935 and passed away in Rome, where he lived and worked, in 2016. As a painter, he distinguished himself in the naive mosaic genre, while also exploring inventive forays into post-divisionism. Umberto D'Arceto Pedroni's works have been exhibited in numerous venues, both in Italy and abroad: the people of Arceto first experienced them in 1992, in the exhibition held to celebrate the restoration of the civic tower. His photographic output is also noteworthy, while in the literary field, the artist expressed a vibrant poetic verve.
