Description of the work
Description of the work
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Nelson Mandela's release, the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights," conceived by the FMR-Marilena Ferrari Foundation and created by the Casa d'Arte of the same name, represents an original work of art in the round, born from the collaboration of contemporary artists and craftsmen, executed according to the criteria of excellence typical of the art of Italian savoir faire and which draws inspiration from the text that establishes the fundamental rights of every individual, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in Paris on 10 December 1948.
This solemn document is introduced by a text by Louis Godart, Mycenaean archaeologist and philologist, former professor of Mycenaean Philology at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Naples “Federico II”, and currently Advisor for the Conservation of the Artistic Heritage of the President of the Italian Republic.
This work, an exclusive, limited edition, was conceived by maestro Marcello Jori, who created the iconographic corpus of forty original plates inspired by the articles of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights." Each plate contains a bilingual transcription of each article, hand-drawn by the artist, harmoniously blended with an original artistic image intended to illustrate the article itself. To demonstrate the universal value of the text, maestro Jori transcribed it using thirty different languages spoken around the world, including an Italian version for easier reading. Jori also designed the work's external cover, drawing inspiration from the idea of a text born from the tree of human knowledge and spreading its splendor of universal truth.
