Valeri Sesilya Maden - YÜZ - Joseph Beuys

YÜZ is a project that collects 100 portraits measuring 10x15 cm painted using oil technique on bistro paper.

Each portrait in Maden's work is intended to express and reveal something. In this regard, the works are used in the form of symbolic content associated with portraiture and/or the power of color expression. The artist chooses a famous person in each work, like an allegorical representation. Valeri takes the concepts people are attached to, such as gender, religion, politics, ideology, and all stereotypical thoughts, as his starting point. Before beginning his painting process, he conducted extensive research to understand the subjects. He later expressed their lifestyle with intense color and rhythmic movements using resin and oil painting techniques. The name of the project comes from the fact that "face" and "hundred" are homonyms in Turkish, translated as "Yüz." The artist takes advantage of this situation and uses irony.
