Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by the Second World War left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge resulted in a total rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material with which they compose their works. In the work of artist Veronica Montanino, however, the Informal conception of artistic creation is always combined with elements of pop aesthetic taste, so that in her works, exploration of material and pictorial gesture often merges with iconic images.
The informality pursued by Veronica Montanino is essentially made of matter and color in an elegantly pop aesthetic. Indeed, the concentration of circular motifs that populate her paintings is composed of synthetic, glossy materials in a harmony of aggressive colors. The union of these elements recalls the world of advertising, new media, and, above all, design. However, with a striking aesthetic impact, Veronica Montanino's treatment of matter consistently takes on a strongly biomorphic connotation. The space created resembles the biological space of a cellular organism, full of life and movement. It is within this space that the artist inserts her iconic images, often created as silhouettes. The symbolic significance of the pure form of her subjects, combined with the vital complexity of the biological space created by the material, constitutes the essence of Veronica Montanino's original and distinctive aesthetic.
Veronica Montanino, born in Rome in 1973, is an artist specializing in camouflage and remix techniques. Her research is also best expressed through installations, especially in historic buildings. Her site-specific work in 2006 at the Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo in Ascoli Piceno was famous. In 2011, she participated in the 54th International Art Exhibition in Venice, at the Italian Pavilion at the Arsenale. Other notable projects in Rome include those for the MAMM, Museum of the Other and Elsewhere in Metropolitz, and the 2013 exhibition at the Casa dell'architettura. In 2016, she had a solo exhibition at the Marca in Catanzaro.
