Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The painter is very attentive to a naturalistic rendering of the landscape and possesses a confident technique that allows him to faithfully convey what he sees on the panel. The atmospheric rendering is perfect, both of the quality of the air and the humidity of the water. The objects depicted blend delicately with the surrounding space, thanks to a highly refined sfumato technique. Light permeates the entire scene, and the artist is also capable, with a quicker brushstroke, of capturing all the light vibrations on the surface of the water. The work is also very balanced compositionally.
G. Viani displays a high level of academic technique. She remains faithful to a concept of art based on the imitation of nature and allows little subjectivity. Her style is therefore very realistic, yet shows some signs of idealization. Her technique also yields to impressionistic hatching, especially when depicting the effect of light on objects.
