Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The artist Vittorio Marchi is a painter specialized in landscape, a theme he interprets with a profoundly lyrical sense of nature.
The landscape artist Vittorio Marchi's work is distinguished by a highly original interpretation that blends naturalistic elements with emotional and spiritual elements. Indeed, the artist necessarily begins by recording sensory data, an essential element for establishing a profound connection with nature. Landscape is perfectly recognizable in his passionate descriptions, and this is the starting point from which Vittorio Marchi develops his poetics. This is expressed primarily formally in a decidedly complex pictorial style. Marchi's style is post-impressionistic, synthesizing his subject into a vision charged with broader meanings, belonging to the symbolic and emotional spheres. The extremely synthetic and structural brushstrokes transfer all reality to the plane of color, in a rendering that is both immediate and highly lyrical. Space becomes complex and dynamic, in a shimmering pictorial surface full of poetic vibrations. Even the palette is influenced by these aesthetic choices, as Marchi favors slightly anti-naturalistic colors, which depart from the simple recording of sensory data to provide a more expressionistic touch. Thus, the calibrated dissonances that are typical of this painter's compositional style prevail.
Vittorio Marchi was born in Sernaia della Battaglia in 1946. He began painting in the 1960s, training under Ruggero Da Col. In the 1980s, he also specialized in engraving, frequenting Valentino De Nardo's studio. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous competitions and exhibitions and has held over 95 solo exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. A landscape painter par excellence, he paints the landscapes of his native Veneto "en plein air." His works appear in numerous public and private collections.
