Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.

In this painting, Postigione reveals a connection to the historical French avant-garde. The overall structure of the painting reveals a strong affinity with Matisse and Fauvism, due to the extreme synthesis of the subject and the predominance of strong, almost aggressive color tones. Indeed, unlike other works, which are always abstract in form but nevertheless present a complex spatiality, in this work we note an ostentatious two-dimensionality. There is a clear desire to recover primordial means of expression, with primary values, connoted by purity. For this reason, even the application of color eliminates any pictorial dynamic, expressing itself in a perfect à plat.
