Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The painting displays excellent quality both in terms of composition and pictorial technique. The execution of the work exudes a classical feel, drawing on the Italian pictorial tradition, particularly the Renaissance. The composition is highly dynamic, built on deep perspective and an ideal, harmonious balance between all its elements. Vittorio Strano, in fact, depicts a large portion of an urban view, with the evocative glimpse of the Grand Canal framed by the perspective wings of the buildings. The painter masterfully defines space through subtle shifts of tone, framing the entire landscape in a coherent and unified atmosphere. Consequently, the role of light is fundamental, creating a suggestive play of shadows. Vittorio Strano's pictorial style is meticulous in achieving a perfect naturalistic rendering, occasionally alternating with a more painterly touch to give greater freshness to the composition. The chromaticism is vivid and brilliant, based on a palette full of light.
Vittorio Strano was born in Savignano sul Rubicone in 1936. He moved to Imola where, as a self-taught artist, he encountered artists such as Sarpelli, Raccagni, and Gottarelli. He initially distinguished himself as a leading exponent of Italian Pop Art and a protagonist of the abstract movement. Strano has exhibited throughout Europe, from Moscow to Budapest, as well as in Paris (Art Nouveaux), London, Frankfurt, Geneva, Rome (Fossi Gallery), Sanremo (Contemporary Painters), Rimini, and Bologna (Civic Museum). In recent years, his work has focused on figurative art, interpreted in a more classical and traditional manner.
