Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The landscapes of the painter Walmar are characterized by a sense of the sublime in the presence of nature, but in a more intimate version. His works are often conceived as large views in which the human presence, when contemplated, small and solitary, seems almost lost at the center of the work.
Walmar's style, consistent throughout his work, is grounded in a keen sense of color and an immediate, cursive application of color. With just a few touches of color, the painter manages to construct his subjects, ensuring a great immediacy in landscapes or life reproductions. It can therefore be said that Walmar's stylistic register undoubtedly stems from a distinct impressionistic influence, which, however, is taken to the extreme of immediacy and rapid execution. In this way, just like the Impressionists, Walmar can capture the vibrations of light and atmosphere on objects, but, at the same time, he exerts a more accentuated synthesis of sensory data, achieving a highly lyrical representation of reality. Walmar's palette reflects this lyrical intimacy with nature and reality, adopting a chromaticism that avoids excess while remaining respectful of the sensory element.
There is no biographical information about the painter Walmar. From an analysis of his works, however, we can learn that he was an artist primarily engaged in landscape painting, which he interpreted with a very cursive and immediate technique, tending towards post-impressionism. His underlying poetics is one of naturalism and realism, marked by an intimate lyricism and founded on a synthesis of sensory data through color.
