Description of the work
Description of the work
Science fiction themes in art can, in many cases, be linked to the typical aesthetics of Surrealism, where the existence of other worlds or parallel dimensions can be connected to our subconscious. However, when science fiction becomes a celebration of technology, its origins inevitably lie in Futurism, which made the celebration of progress one of its main themes. Coinciding with the development of the science fiction genre in cinema, around the 1960s, some painters also began to explore this theme in art, such as the celebrated Chesley Bonestell.
Painter William Nuzzo approaches this science fiction-themed painting with his distinctive style. First, the composition focuses on the circular shape of the planet that dominates the work (a recurring theme in this painter). Everything is designed to convey a floating, weightless situation, which is why the painter chooses a diagonal framing. Then the color also comes into play, applied with a fluid and veiled painterly style, further suggesting the scene's sense of levitation and suspension.
William Nuzzo is a painter originally from Reggio Calabria, born in 1930. His favorite subjects are landscapes, clowns, and science fiction themes. He always approaches his works with compositions based on a very fluid and cursive paintbrush, in which color plays a key role.
