Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
William Nuzzo's style presents a perfect fusion of realism/naturalism and a delicate impressionistic rendering of sensory details. On the one hand, the artist precisely describes the view or still life in all its details with a strong sense of reality and the everyday, or indulges in a delicate lyricism of nature. On the other, his refined pictorial technique allows him to convey a sense of immediacy to the canvas, thanks to a fluid and loose brushstroke, charged with atmospheric vibrations. Light thus reflects on objects, but without interfering with the precise description of reality, and the artist can modulate shadows and lights with great naturalism. William Nuzzo's sincere realism is also expressed in his choice of a compositional structure made of clear lines and shapes, which reveal the artist's careful study of reality and a highly rational mind. His palette is made up of warm, brown colors that ensure tonal unity across the surfaces of his works.
William Nuzzo is a painter originally from Reggio Calabria, born in 1930. His favorite subjects are landscapes, clowns, and science fiction themes. He always approaches his works with compositions based on a very fluid and cursive paintbrush, in which color plays a key role.
