Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
In his sculptures, Wolfgang Alexander Kossuth draws on a classical and traditional conception of artistic creation. As we can see in this work, the sculptor pursues a completely naturalistic rendering, which he achieves through his remarkable technique. The artist emphasizes the subject's volumes, creating a balanced relationship within the work. The physiognomy is highly precise, with a certain idealization. To achieve greater expressiveness, however, Kossuth, while remaining within the realm of naturalism, employs slight but noticeable deformations of the human figure. In this case, to achieve a sort of artificial elegance, the figure of Venus is elongated in an unnatural manner.
Wolfgang Alexander Kossuth is a German artist born in Prfonten in 1947. An eclectic personality, he has dedicated his entire life to art, not only through sculpture, but also through music, literature, and dance. The human figure is always at the center of his research, in a fundamentally natural and harmonious interpretation that draws on classical art.
