Description of the work
Description of the work
This work is emblematic of the artistic production of Gianantonio Marino Zago, a painter originally from Trieste who lives and works in Verona. Zago's poetics are informed by various influences and meditations on the languages that shaped the poetics of the object, typical of the 1850s, 1860s, and 1870s. In particular, he achieves a splendid union between the revival of the Neo-Dadaist-inspired objet trouvé and an energetic pictorial gesture linked to the languages of abstract informalism (think especially of figures like the American Rauschenberg or the French Arman). Zago demonstrates his ability to navigate this context with skill, constructing his own vision of the world. First and foremost, he does not renounce the use of two-dimensional media: his creativity moves within the confines of the canvas but transcends them, invading the viewer's space through the use of real objects that introduce the full concreteness of reality. The discarded objects of consumer society are recycled by the artistic process, becoming part of the work's creative process and taking on a new life. Indeed, the waste Zago places on the pictorial support (magazine shreds, puzzle pieces, construction tape) enters into a close dialogue with the artist's pictorial gesture, which appears almost uncontrollable in its expressive power. Thus, we can see how Zago's work is extremely complex, rich as it is with elements and therefore with stimuli. However, this artist's great mastery lies above all in his ability to manage this great complexity and energy in a substantial balance, both chromatic and compositional, within the overall work.
